Estudio clínico DIABET2PREDICT
Biobizkaia opens the participation process for the DiabeT2Predict study
We are recruiting people with type 2 diabetes to volunteer for the DiabeT2Predict project (funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities). This initiative, which will be carried out throughout 2025, seeks to apply personalized nutrition, combining advances in the study of microbiota and genetic risk factors to improve type 2 diabetes.
The goal is to create a capsule-shaped product that helps people with type 2 diabetes regulate their glucose levels, thus reducing complications arising from the disease.
To participate in the study, please email ec.diabetes@bio-bizkaia.eus or call +34 94 600 6473.
The trial is being conducted in Barakaldo, Pamplona and Madrid. Participation, which consists of 5 visits including screening, requires in-person attendance at the hospital. The required profile is:
- Male or female
- 18-70 years old
- Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and not insulin-dependent (meaning using insulin as a treatment).
- Able to travel to the hospital for in-person visits.
- Clinical medication (daily intake) at a stable dose for at least 3 months prior to the intervention. Do not take stomach protectors (omeprazole, Almax, etc.) daily.
The total duration of the trial is 3 months with 5 in-person visits. During this time, volunteers will be required to take one capsule daily. The capsule may be a placebo or a postbiotic (inactivated bacterial strain). During the visits, anthropometric and body composition measurements will be taken, blood will be drawn for biochemical parameter analysis, stool samples will be collected for microbiota analysis, and simple questionnaires will be completed that reflect dietary and physical activity patterns. In addition, continuous glucose monitoring (using a sensor) will be performed for the first and last 14 days of the intervention. During the study, participants will be under constant medical supervision and monitoring.
