Proteomics

Presentation

Proteomics stands as a cornerstone in biomedical research, offering a systematic approach to unravel the complexities of the proteome—the complete set of proteins within a biological system. Employing techniques such as mass spectrometry, proteomics allows researchers to delve into the structural, functional, and interaction dynamics of proteins.

In the realm of health research, proteomics plays a vital role in advancing our understanding of diseases. By identifying and quantifying proteins, researchers can discern molecular signatures indicative of various pathological conditions. This information not only aids in the discovery of biomarkers but also paves the way for targeted therapeutic interventions and the development of diagnostic tools.

The insights gained through mass spectrometry-based proteomics contribute not only to deciphering normal cellular functions but also to unveiling aberrations associated with diseases. This knowledge forms the basis for innovative treatment strategies, personalized medicine, and the identification of novel therapeutic targets.

The Proteomics Platform of the Biobizkaia Institute is integrated within the research support platforms and services. The main mission of the Proteomics Platform is the development and implementation of proteomics-based experimental strategies to solve biomedical problems of researchers. The Platform provides expert advice on the different issues related to the design and execution of a proteomics experiment. Specifically, the Proteomics Platform carries out all phases of the experiment, including sample preparation, mass spectrometry analysis and data processing. To this end, the Platform has technical and scientific personnel with extensive experience in the field. In terms of infrastructure, the Platform has two state-of-the-art mass spectrometers that allow the analysis of highly complex samples with high levels of sensitivity.
